Maddie & Tae – Love & Light (AUDIO ALBUM INTRO)
Hey we’re Maddie & Tae. Here’s a song from our brand new album Love & Light.”

LOVE & LIGHT AUDIO CUT X CUT:

Maddie & Tae – Track 01: “Fall In Love & Find Out (AUDIO)
“Fall in Love and Find Out is a song that we actually wrote with someone from Old Dominion, Brad Tursi, and we wrote it in his living room, and it’s just a fun little love song about knowing what you bring to the table. I love this song, and it’s such a great first track of the album. Yes. Perfectly sweet and aggressive.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 02: “Any Kinda Lovin'” (AUDIO)
“Any Kinda Lovin’. I remember this was the first song that I wrote after my maternity leave with my daughter. And it just felt good to kind of get back in the writing room, and especially writing a song like this, it just feels good, and it makes you want to get up on stage and clap your hands. And I just see this being a really fun crowd engagement moment for us on stage. We channeled our inner Shania, I feel like, on this track. Definitely.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 03: “One Hit Wonders” (AUDIO)
“One Hit Wonders was a song that I actually wrote with two other writers while T was on maternity leave. And I really didn’t think that this song would come out, because it’s really groovy and funky and kind of different musically. But T and I, in the very beginning of our career, saw a lot of articles saying, oh, Maddie and Tae, One Hit Wonders. And so I saved this song title for the longest time, One Hit Wonders. And I wanted to make it positive out of like, the haters that were saying that kind of stuff. I love a good positive pivot, and so we wrote a really like sexy, cool love song and I hope y’all love it.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 04: “Heart They Didn’t Break” (AUDIO)
“Heart They Didn’t Break is the only song that we did not co-write on this album, but it was one that when we heard it, we felt like we had written it, which that’s how you know a song belongs to you, when it feels that way. And our friends Anna Voss, Ryan Beaver, and Benji Davis, three writers that we absolutely adore in town, wrote this song, and this was the first time T stepped out on lead. Yep! And I was so excited that this song really…kind of describes our friendship even though we didn’t write it. It felt like it was made for us. Yes.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 05: “Only Jesus” (AUDIO)
“Only Jesus. This one is one of the spicier diss tracks on Love and Light. This song really was a healing experience for me. I was going through a really tough, challenging relationship with someone in my life that I was having to really set boundaries with. And I was talking to my husband one night, and I was like, just really want to love this person well, and I can’t. And they make it almost impossible to do that. And my husband said, well, only Jesus is gonna love ’em like that. And I think we literally wrote that song the next day. I was so inspired by the profound statement that he said. And so it’s for the spicy Christians out there. It’s for the Christians that love Jesus, but also don’t put up with nothing.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 06: “Free Like” (AUDIO)
“So Free Like, I also wrote while T was on maternity leave. I was just getting bored and wanted to activate my little writer brain. And this was such a fun song to write. It’s very just high energy. It was also kind of a diss track and I’ll never reveal who or what it was about, but there’s that kind of spicy energy in there again. Just taking funky energy and making it something good.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 07: “Down That Road” (AUDIO)
“Down that road, I am so excited to play this one live. It just has such a cool feel to it. And actually, this is the only song on the record that is co-produced. Yeah. We have two producers on this record, or on this song, my husband Josh Kerr and Chris LaCorte. We just loved the demo so much that we ended up using a lot of the stuff that Chris LaCorte did for this demo. So I love this one. So sassy. I want to make a really sexy, Coyote Ugly kind of video for this song. I just see us stomping, maybe some rain, drama. Love that. I think it would be so sick. Like Step Up meets Coyote Ugly.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 08: “Kissing Cowboys” (AUDIO)
“Kissing Cowboys. I love this song. Kissing Cowboys is special. We actually started this song and then finished it a year later because the title actually was just so loud to us that we knew we needed to come back to it. And we just wanted to work on it and make sure that it was perfect. And I’m so glad that we added this to the record because it definitely just adds like. One for the single ladies, you know? Or that are out there kissing frogs, trying to find their prince charming. We just need to encourage our girls, like, hey, you’re not gonna get the John Wayne on the first try sometimes. That’s just not how it goes. That’s right. But yeah, there’s, just keep on kissing cowboys, girl.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 09: “Somebody Will” (AUDIO)
“Somebody Will is the oldest song on this album somebody will was written nine years ago, which is crazy. And we have always loved this song, but it just never felt right on The Way It Feels or Through The Madness. It just like for some reason didn’t feel like it was gonna have its moment and we were like we are not cutting this song unless it has a full big girl moment And so it just felt so perfect on this record. And I just love a song that stands the test of time. This song’s almost a decade old and we still love it and still connect with it. I hope there’s a big theme of like self-worth and knowing your worth on this record. And I feel like Somebody Will is like the pillar of the self-worth message.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 10: “Girl In Alabama” (AUDIO)
“Okay, so Girl in Alabama is about a friend of ours that found out the guy she was dating for like years and years. They were in a very serious relationship, literally had girls in Alabama, there was one in Mississippi, there was one I think in Georgia. They were sprinkled all over, and so we were in Tae’s kitchen while her friend was telling us the tea and I started singing. He got a girl in Alabama, a girl in Mississippi. And I just started singing that little part and then we ended up writing that the next week with Tae’s husband Josh and our friend Summer Overstreet and it fell out so naturally and so we were like this girl gets justice because we’re roasting this guy and karma will get him. But also it’s like how does a man, how does a human have that much time? And the dude had kids. Yeah, how are you that far spread on a map? I don’t get it. It’s like how you find the time to be that busy is one of the lyrics in the song. It’s kind of astonishing. Like I don’t know when he sleeps. Yeah, when do you sleep? Ugh, terrible, what a dog. What a dog.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 11: “Ain’t Enough” (AUDIO)
“Oh, ain’t enough. This one is a good old country song just about loving the finer, simpler things in life, like gathering around a kitchen table and eating dinner and not talking on your phone and just having good conversation, a good meal, and more girls on the radio station. I, that’s my favorite part. We do a little sweet kill in the second verse where it says, need more dinner table, good conversation. Like we need more girls on the radio stations. And I feel like we’re getting there, thank God. But it’s been a process, so yeah.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 12: “What A Woman Can Do” (AUDIO)
“What a Woman Can Do, this is another one that T steps out on lead and I love. This song was inspired by my husband’s granny. Her name’s Grandma Lena and she is from Puerto Rico. She moved to the States when she was 18, ended up raising four kids by herself as a single mom. And just when I think of like Superwoman, that’s who I think of. And him and I were at breakfast with her one time, and she was just telling us all these stories about raising her kids on her own and all the sacrifices she made and how many jobs she was working and just how insane it was, but how she just did not bat an eye when it came to being a great mom and providing for her kids and providing stability for them. And I was just so blown away. And so me and Jonah got in the car after breakfast and I was like, man, it is insane what a woman can do. And I just started, you know, give grandma Lena a house and she makes it a home, give her this and give her that. And so that’s kind of how the whole idea started. And then we finished writing the song together later that week with Barry Dean and Luke Laird. And it’s one of my favorites on the record.
Maddie & Tae – Track 13: “Drunk Girls In Bathrooms” (AUDIO)
“Drunk Girls in Bathrooms, oh the lore that we have exposed, T. I feel like the girls might be, the girlies might be a little mad that we’ve like kind of spilled the beans to the guys, but now the guys understand what’s going on. Yeah, when all the girls leave at the same time to go use the bathroom. Yes, because we’re plotting, we’re figuring out things, we’re figuring out life together. And this song was born because my husband went to a game night with a bunch of couples that are friends of ours and he said that all the girls were talking about the party that is the party in the ladies’ room at a bar or a club, and he was not familiar with this lore, and so I kind of had to let him know that that’s really why the girls go out, is because we like to go to the bathroom and gas each other up, tell each other how wonderful we all look, be like, dump the guy, smooch the guy. We’re world domination in the ladies’ restroom, basically, so that’s what Drunk Girls In Bathrooms is about.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 14: “Chasing Babies & Raising Dreams” (AUDIO)
“Chasing Babies and Raising Dreams. I don’t think there could be a more perfect song to describe this phase of life that we’re in. We are changing diapers by the day and we’re singing songs on stage at night and it is just like such a sweet season of life that is chaotic and it’s definitely hard to leave our babies to go out on the road. But we’re so thankful that we get to do what we love, and we’re just like soaking in that gratitude of being able to live in both worlds at the same time. Yes.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 15: “Sad Girl Summer” (AUDIO)
“So, Sad Girl Summer, this song actually came out last summer, so I’m glad she gets to have another summer, and maybe she’ll take off, you know, be the song of the summer. I would love that for her. But I had this song title for a couple years, and I really just heard it, like, almost kind of like paying homage to like Bathroom Floor from our album, The Way It Feels. Our fans love that song, and so we kind of wanted to like, you know, hint towards that and kind of have another like anthem uplifting girl power. That’s just our vibe. And so that is definitely one of the pillars of women empowerment on the record.”
Maddie & Tae – Track 16: “Love & Light” (AUDIO)
“Love and Light is like kind of our life motto. So it kind of worked out perfect that we wrote a song called Love and Light and the album’s called Love and Light. Because even when people are terrible to us or we get torn down or just get defeated, whatever, we are just always like living love and light, like only wishing people well even when they burn us. And this is the best diss track we have ever written. It started out as a total diss track to someone who really burned us real bad last year. And we just, you know, our therapy is songwriting and we put it all into a song and then we’re like, you know what, this is literally how we live. It’s like even when people do us wrong or things like that happen, we just, it’s all love and light, baby.”
