Next week is CBS Premiere Week, and one of the shows we’re all looking forward to watching is the new competition series, The Road. Starring Keith Urban as the “Headliner,” the show follows 12 talented hopefuls competing for a slot opening for Keith Urban week-to-week in front of a live audience who votes on who stays and who goes. In addition to Keith, The Road will also feature fellow executive producers Blake Shelton and Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, Tulsa King, Landman, Tulsa King) and Gretchen Wilson as the “Tour Manager.” The series captures the journey and offers a backstage pass into the not-so-glamorous lifestyle of a touring musician.
”It’s an idea about what happens to artists when they leave those other competition shows and they’re thrust into the clubs in front of an audience that doesn’t know who they are, that doesn’t care who they are, it’s a real world experience. They wanted to film that; they wanted to capture that moment being on a tour bus, being away from your family and traveling on the road and playing in front of people that couldn’t care less. So, the idea is I’m kind of doing a short 20-30 minute set at the end of the night at every one of these stops in the club and before me, all of these musicians who are competing with each other come out and they get to do two songs. They get a cover of their choice and they get an original, and they’ve got to grab that audience and make an impression in those two songs. The audience votes, and at the end of the night, we look who didn’t make it down at the bottom, they’re sent home, and slowly but surely, it gets smaller and smaller as we go town to town.”

The Road is set to premiere Sunday, October 19th at 9pm ET/8pm CT at 9pm ET.
